German Chocolate Cake

It was my little ones 3rd birthday and he requested a chocolate cake.  One of my favourites is German Chocolate.   Not too sweet and oh so delicious.  Sadly I didn’t have all the ingredients on hand that I needed. So I made do with what i had the result, amazing!

German Chocolate Cake
Yields 2 Not too sweet and very moist this cake is perfect for any occasion

  1. 2 cups of flour
  2. 3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  3. 1 tsp baking soda
  4. 1/2 tsp baking powder
  5. 1/4 tsp of salt
  6. 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  7. 1 cup softened unsalted butter
  8. 4 eggs
  9. 1 tbsp vanilla
  10. 1 vanilla bean
  11. 1 cup of milk with 1 tbsp lemon juice
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Grease cake pan set aside
  3. In a bowl combine flour, baking powder and baking soda
  4. Combine milk and lemon juice and set aside for 5 mins
  5. Place sugar and butter in a bowl , cream until light and fluffy
  6. Beat in eggs one at a time, mix in vanilla until smooth
  7. Scoop out vanilla bean , mix until combined
  8. Slowly add flour mixture alternately with milk mixture until mixed thoroughly
  9. Add batter into cake pan until firm to the touch or knife inserted in centre comes clean about 40mins
  10. Remove from oven and let cool , frost and serve
